You don’t get empowerment by telling people they’re empowered.
Instead, you get a lot of confused people trying to figure out where the boundaries really are.
If you want a deeply empowering environment where people have and use real sovereignty to act, you need to clarify boundaries as much as you need to clarify authority and freedom.

Here is what you’ll get.
Curriculum
1. Welcome and orientation
This introductory section welcomes you to the training and provides guidance on how to navigate it. You’ll also choose your Cohort, which sets your group and live session schedule. 👍
2. Introducing the Holacracy framework
This section contains several lessons that begin by introducing the Holacracy framework and placing it in context, contrasting it with the ‘conventional management hierarchy’—the management framework most companies currently operate with. The lessons cover the main building blocks of Holacracy and prepare you to start experiencing it. 🏋️♂️
3. Experience the tactical meeting process (Live)
In this first live session with your Cohort and your coach, you’ll participate in a ‘tactical meeting’ led by your coach 🫡. This section introduces your simulated company, Hygean, with your Cohort members as its team. It includes preparatory videos and the live session itself. It will be fun 🙃
4. How decentralized Governance works in self-management
In this section, you’ll dive into ‘governance’ within the Holacracy framework. It introduces a standard format for defining authority and responsibilities, along with a decentralized process for modifying roles and teams. Decentralized governance is a key mindset shift in self-management 🤯, inviting all members to propose structural changes with clear checks and balances to protect the company.
5. Experience the governance meeting process (Live)
After learning about governance, you’ll experience it firsthand in a live session where you’ll participate in a governance meeting facilitated by your coach. This will be the last session where you’re solely a participant; in subsequent live sessions, you’ll learn to facilitate these meetings yourself 😎
6. Under the hood of the governance meeting process and how to facilitate it
This section breaks down the governance process step by step, including its key roles. ♟️ You’ll learn the ‘why’ behind the design, the purpose of each step, and how to facilitate the process yourself.
7. Facilitate your first governance meeting (Live)
In this live session, you’ll take the reins as you facilitate your first tactical meeting. With guidance from your coach and support from your Cohort, you’ll hone your skills in real-time. 👏
8. Day-to-day operations and tactical meetings in self-management
Shifting focus from governance, this section explores operations in a self-managed environment. Discover the changes (and non-changes) in day-to-day work, 💼 📊 and learn how to use and facilitate tactical meetings.
9. Facilitate your first tactical meeting (Live)
In this live session, you’ll practice facilitating the tactical meeting for the first time. Your coach will step back, and all Cohort members will have the opportunity to facilitate. 🙌
10. Breaking down Objections and Integration in governance
This section delves into the most challenging aspects of the governance process 😮: handling objections, testing them, and integrating them into a solution. It includes theory, examples, and an activity to assess your understanding.
11. Facilitate Objections and Integration in governance meetings (Live)
After mastering the mechanics of testing and integrating objections, this live session provides a space to practice. You and your Cohort will work with scripted proposals and objections to focus on these critical elements of the process. 💪
12. Circle structure & links
This section covers the high-level structure of self-managed organizations, including how teams (or circles) connect, 🔗 how requests flow between circles, and the roles that facilitate inter-circle collaboration and coordination.
13. Analyzing how ‘Policies’ work in the Holacracy framework
In this section, you’ll examine real-life policies from organizations to understand their proper use in the Holacracy framework. Learn how to effectively implement Policies and avoid common pitfalls that can undermine self-management efforts. ⛑️
14. Strategy: best practices for a dynamic self-management context
Strategy in self-management requires a different approach due to its predictive nature. 👀 This section clarifies these distinctions and provides best practices for defining and implementing strategy effectively.
15. Applying the rules: integrating everything we’ve learned
This section presents various scenarios and challenges, demonstrating how to address them using the self-management tools you’ve learned throughout the training. It connects all the dots! 🤓
16. Review, last Q&A, and closing (Live)
This live session marks the conclusion of your training journey. It’s a final opportunity to connect with your fellow Cohort members, address any lingering questions, and bid farewell in this context. 👋🫶

We’re grateful for our awesome attendees
I can’t say enough about the training. I was told by my colleagues that it was going to be intense. It was more than that. I can usually be pretty critical especially when resources (money/time) are involved and I really feel the value was achieved. It’s one thing to get great training and content. It’s another thing to get it from a team of players that truly love and believe in what they’re teaching. Thank you so much.
The training is well designed. Every step of the way I felt more and more informed, more interested, and so on… Brian shines out energy. He is obviously on fire for Holacracy.
This training has been extraordinary. While I had some experience with and knowledge of Holacracy before this, it so profoundly deepened my understanding and appreciation for Holacracy, and my ability to show up as a participant and as a facilitator. I can’t recommend it enough to anybody who’s interested in Holacracy.
Holacracy does a phenomenal job of pragmatically utilizing some of the most effective human communication and conflict resolution techniques that have been proven over and over to be very useful, not only in a business structure. The training itself is essentially a means to teach practitioners, teach businesspeople, to incorporate those into their structure. It’s proven to be very useful.
